Colon Hydrotherapy: I’ve had one!

31 Aug

What is Colonic Hydrotherapy?:

Colonic Hydrotherapy is an internal bath to help cleanse the colon (large intestine) of poisons, gas, accumulated fecal matter and the mucus deposits. Sterilised equipment is used to flush filtered water through the colon to help expel waste products and compacted deposits.

How does it work?

The colon is the last five feet or so of intestible tube, approximately five feet in length. Food waste enters into the colon from the small intestines in a fluid state and water, minerals and vitamins are then reabsorbed and toxins and other waste materials eliminated through the rectum, therefore if the colon is not functioning correctly, many disorders can result, including constipation, diverticulitis, haemorrhoids, colitis and even bowel cancer. In 1912, the Royal Society of Medicine published a report stating that toxicity in the intestines can be a contributing cause to sleep disorders, mental and physical depression, skin problems, breast cancer, bladder infections, headaches, as well as digestive disorders. The report concluded by saying: “To no other single cause is it possible to attribute one tenth as many various and widely diverse disorders.”

What is involved in treatment by Colonic Hydrotherapy?

Filtered water maintained at a carefully regulated temperature is slowly introduced using specialised, sterilised equipment into the rectum. The patients’ modesty is maintained at all times and you would usually be given a special gown to wear. The therapist will work progressively around the structure of the colon allowing water to flow in and then release, thereby expelling accumulated toxins and impactions.

The whole process takes about 30 minutes and herbal preparations are sometimes used for specific conditions with regular implants of lactobacillus acidophilus given to assure normalisation of the bowel flora. http://www.internethealthlibrary.com/Therapies/ColonicHydrotherapy.htm

The first session I had was early April. I was encouraged to try it out from a thread I read on LHCF.  I went in the early morning, and boy was I nervous. I undressed in a room and laid on a table exactly similar to the above pic. I had to insert a small tube (about half the size of my pinky -  1inch) into my bum.

The session lasted 45min and she gave me an extra 15min. I didn’t have to much going on. I know it may seem sick, but I was hoping to see some gross stuff like parasites. Sadly, lol there were none. She told me that I have alot of fiber and I am relatively healthy (yeah me) so I’ll only need to come once a month, if I desired to.

Price was great for me: $40!! The woman was very nice and professional. She stayed in the room with me for majority of my session. We talked about living a healthy lifestyle, spirulina, chorella, and everything in between hahaha.

My second colonic was about 3 weeks ago on Aug 10.  I had been eating like crap the last 2 weeks prior (pizza -veggie, fried foods, pop,  etc). I didn’t have as much waste like I did last time. Actually, the last 30min of my hour was mostly just water. She told me that  I had some candida growths going on due to the sugars/white flours I’d been eating. I felt great, and had a great day all around.

I’m hoping to try to make a trip in to see her every month. I am really trying to keep up with my clean eating, no more fried foods. I’m like 100% full vegetarian now, and it’s def. been a journey. I have so much to learn but I’m continuing on!

Maca Booty here I COME!

19 Jun

I’ve had a jar of maca powder in my possession for almost a year now. I first had only used it on 3 occasions, before packing it up and not using it again. This past Thursday, when I opened my cabinet, there it was staring me in the face.

What the hell I thought. I read the directions on the bottle and it said 1/2-1tsp 2-3x daily. So far, today is day 3 and I’m only taking in 1/2tsp once per day. It’s afternoon right now, so I’m thinking I may add an additional 1/2tsp to see how I feel.

In case you aren’t aware of Maca, read up: http://altmedicine.about.com/od/herbsupplementguide/a/maca.htm

What is Maca?

Other names: Lepidium meyenii, Peruvian ginseng

Maca is a plant with a radish-like root that is used as a food and for medicinal purposes.

Although maca is unrelated to the ginseng family, it has been dubbed “Peruvian ginseng” because it is used as a folk remedy to increase stamina, energy, and sexual function.

Why Do People Use Maca?

According to folklore, ancient Incan warriors took maca before going off to battle to make them physically strong. However, they were later prohibited from taking it, in order to protect conquered women from their heightened libidos.

One study looked at the effect of 4 months treatment with maca tablets on semen quality in nine adult men. Treatment with maca resulted in increased seminal volume, sperm count, and sperm motility.

A 12-week randomized controlled trial looked at 1,500 mg maca, 3,000 mg maca, or placebo. After 8 weeks, there was an improvement in sexual desire in the men taking maca.

Maca does not appear to affect hormone levels. Serum testosterone and estradiol levels were not different in men treated with maca compared to those who took the placebo. Other studies have found no effect on luteinizing hormone, follicle-stimulating hormone, prolactin, and 17-alpha hydroxyprogesterone.

OMFG!!! Using the Master Cleanse for WEIGHT LOSS

14 Jun

This irks me more than anything. Friends (IRL and online) ask for tips and advice on how to do the MC and I openly supply them with the information. But, their real motives are not told until they get the info. They want to use the MC to lose weight.

Now, do you lose weight on the MC? Yes of course you do..but the #1 reason behind it should be for detoxing of the body. I guess I just don’t understand. If you’re fat/oveweight/stagnant etc then don’t use the master cleanse as a quick fix. Don’t do the MC for a quick 20lb weight loss..then go back to eating your MikkyD’s and wondering why you’re back into a fat ass!

A girlfriend of mine very subtely asked me about how i was doing on the MC (back when I was doing it) and I told her. Next question: So, how much did you lose. When I told her I do the cleanse for it’s true purpose and I dont weigh myself at all..I could hear her disappointment. That didn’t stop her from attempting the MC on her own though. I can only imagine the research she didn’t put into it. So, of course she texts me and says she can’t do the MC. She throws up the SWF, and when she has tried to drink the lemonade, she throws that up too…no comment from me, because I’m not going to help you continue on with your borderline poor body imaging/disorder.

I mean really..I find myself sitting here with a question mark above my head. If you want to lose weight, get your ass in a gym! Lift weights, do some cardio..REAL CARDIO. Eating a clean diet is more imporant or beneficial than anything when it comes to healthy weight loss. Oh, and let’s not forget water. The human body is made up of 60% in women. Not only does it flush the toxins out..but also the fat too.

I’m no Master Cleanse Guru or anything like that..but shit I’m done trying to motivate, encourage others to do the MC or any other type of cleanses or detox. They aren’t doing it for the right reasons, thus them getting ill, or binging.

*sigh* Man that feels good to get out!

Sunday = Hair Day

13 Jun

I’m sitting here with my shower cap on. I used 1tsp shikakai, 1tsp amla, 2tsp brahmi. I made it into a watery paste and applied it to my hair as soon as I got done ‘shredding’  I’m being lazy..I’ve had it in for at least an hour now.

I plan on washing this out now, co-washing with Suave Coconut, then adding my mix (water, infusium, conditioner) then Scurl, then EVCO and a tad bit of Carol’s Daughter Mimosa Hair Honey.

I’m not in the mood to put it in the small/med plaits as planned..so I’m going to put in 6-8 and rock a quick braidout for tomorrow. I’ll braid it up on Tues/Wed.

Should I Stay or Go..Vegetarian that Is…

12 Jun

I’ve been considering becoming a vegetarian for a little over the past year now. I never quite follow through with it though. At the time, it is damn near impossible to be a ‘true’ vegetarian while eating in the Army DFAC. The food they claim is vegetarian is mostly a meatless option. Uhhh that doesn’t make it vegetarian by any means.

I’ve been reading Skinny Bitch, posting more in some vegan/vegetarian groups I’m apart of. I even logged back in on www.soulvegfolk.com to get some inspiration.

When it comes to red meat, my only vice is beef jerky. lol, I don’t think it’ll be that hard for me to kick the habit ( 2 bages @ least/week) considering I just started eating it like maybe 4 months ago. As far as chicken, I was able to consume 2 tiny pieces of chicken breast in a salad a couple weeks ago. Now, had I been back on my meat eating tendencies, I would’ve felt gipped by the lack of chicken that was present, but this time around it was just enough. I dont even think I ate all that was in the salad anyway. Oh, and I’ve been eating turkey breast (thinnly sliced) lunch meat too.  I’d like to get away from all of this soon.

I baked some fish (whiting) last night. I admit it was very good, but it was disgusting for me pulling back the silver skin off the underside of the fish. Usually I dont take notice in it, but last night, I couldn’t get over it.

I’ve picked up a few books from the library. They are all pretty informative and I like that. I think I need something that is more controversial, something that will totally turn me off from flesh all together. I have yet to find that book though.

I’m going to continue doing my research though. Hopefully sometime soon, I get that ‘light-bulb’ moment and it all comes together for me.

Time 4 Some PT

11 Jun

So, time is almost near for my time on the 30 Day shred. I was sitting here and the idea that I really need to get ‘Army Ready’  came over me. I really need to get my body right before I return for AIT (who knows when that will be)

I came across this article, and boy am I MOTIVATED:  http://www.army.mil/-news/2010/04/08/37090-beast-tears-through-army-physical-fitness-tests/

I am beyond motivated by this soldier! She’s a few years older than me and scored a 395 on her final APFT?!!

Her scores are basically OFF THE FUCKING CHARTS ok!

  • Push Ups: 94
  • Sit Ups: 104
  • Running Time: 12:50

Now, for me I’m 27 years old. My minimum scores should be at 60%. My goal is to MAX-OUT my PT Test at 100%

What does 100% MAX-OUT look like?

  • Push Ups: 50
  • Sit Ups: 82
  • Running Time: 15:48

No, of course if I do more, or the run time is even faster, then I’ll be at 300+ points. Spc. Draggie scored 395!!

Starting Monday, my journey towards Army PT Fitness starts with:

I’m wondering if I should look online for a novice running plan, or just get out there and run…Hmmmm

30 Day Shred Challenge

11 Jun

So almost a month ago, I opened up a new 30 Day Shred challenge on LHCF. There are about 30+ participants. I wish I had been updating my journey on this challenge. Oh well, next time I’ll do better.

Anyway, we have exactly 4 days left in the challenge! I can’t believe it. I spent last weekend out in the range at Ft. Knox. That took alot out of me. I haven’t done any of the shred this week, except yesterday.

Here are the rules of the challenge:

Rules:

1. 7 workouts per every 10 days. MANDATORY!!

2. Every 10 days we will increase the level. There are 3 levels.

3. 20 mins of Cardio (min) 4 days per week.

4. ACCOUNTABILITY: Check in at least 2x a week to let us know how your workouts are coming, how you’re feeling, level of motivation, etc.

SCHEDULE

Level 1: May 17 – 26
Level 2: May 27 – June 5
Level 3: June 06 – 15

So, that’s the jist of it. Up until this week, I’d been extremely consistant. I’ haven’t completed a full 10 days though. Usually I make it to just 7. So, technically I have 6 (min) days left on Level 3, and 1 day left on Level 2 to make up. It’s so motivating to see other WOC who have an interest in physical fitness and weight loss! There is a surprise I’m giving out at the end of the challenge for the ‘biggest loser’. Everyone who participated put in their starting measurments. We’ll then calculate the ending measurments and see who has lost the most inches overall. Cant wait to see who the winner is!!

I’m on my (HNJ) Healthy Nail Journey

10 Jun

Growing up I’ve had the shortest most stubby nails. I’d bite them, and they’d just be ragged. Around the age of 14, I started getting acrylics put on. This has been an on again off again cycle for the past 10+years.

Lately, I’ve been more concious about my nails. I want them to look more womanly. Long, strong nails. I love beautiful, bold polishes. I want my nails to look like I just walked out of a salon!

So, last week I did some research in the Nail Fanatics section on LHCF. I went online and got some nail supplies to start me on my journey.

This is what I got:

NutraNail Green Tea Cuticle remover

Orly Rubberized Basecoat

Vite – Dry Fast TopCoat

Wet n’ Wild Shine: 446C

Here are my results:

Before:  After:

Not bad for a DIY right?! I plan to give myself weekly manicures. I’m thinking Thursdays would be my best day out of the week to pamper myself. My goal is to build up a bomb ass polish collection. I’m in awe of what the ladies on LHCF are hauling over there!

Skinny Bitch

9 Jun

Relax..it’s a book title lmao.

I finally got my hands on Skinny Bitch by Rory Freedman and Kim Barnouin yesterday from the library. I’ve gotten through about half of the book and it’s a decent read. It’s written almost like a ‘MeanGirls’ of highschool type of style. Alot of “you idiot, bitch, ass,” etc references are in here.

I can’t really say I’ve learned a great deal of information so far from reading this book. Most I already knew..eating meat is bad..why it’s bad blah blah. What I did not know was that basically  the Govt, USDA, FDA are all having a 3-some together.

One chapter in the book is pretty disturbing. They got quotes from people who work in the slaughterhouses. I couldn’t even finish reading all of it. It was just too much for me. Here’s a sample of what I’m talking about:

“I’ve seen them take those stunners-they’re about as long as a yard stick-and shove it up the hog’s ass…They do it with cows, too…And in their ears, their eyes, down their throat…They’ll be squealing and they’ll just shove it right down there.”

“One time I took my knife-it’s sharp enough-and I sliced off the end of a hog’s nose, just like a piece of bologna. The hog went crazy for a few seconds. Then it just sat there looking kind of stupid. So I took a handful of salt brine and ground it into his nose. Now that hog went nuts, pushing it’s nose all over the place. I still had a bunch of salt left in my hand-I was wearing a rubber glove-and I stuck the salt right up the hog’s ass. The poor hog didn’t know whether to shit or go blind.”

So yeah, that’s a handful of what that chapter touched on. It’s sickening..

This is so frustrating for me..being in the military and trying to become a vegetarian. We have plenty of eating choices, but when it comes to TRUE vegetarian options it’s far from existent. Most “vegetarian” meals are pretty much ‘meatless’ option. I’m sorry but how is it vegetarian lasagna when it’s smothered in ricotta, mozzarella, and other various cheeses?!

I’m thinking sometime soon I’m going to find my way back on http://www.soulvegfolk.com

I’m going to finish reading up the rest of this book. Kinda hard to do when I just went grocery shopping yesterday and have a freezer full of whiting, flounder, and can of tuna fish lol..
